How to Make Your Kitchen Feel like Summer All Year Long

If you don’t have a beach house but want to feel like you’re at a water-side oasis everyday, a simple kitchen update could be all it takes. From cool toned walls and decor to villa vibes, here are all the ways you can achieve your dream kitchen with summer vibes all year round.

Summer Kitchen Ideas

Many people associate the idea of summer with the beach and the water. If you want to make your kitchen resemble those summer months all year long, consider turning it into your own little beach oasis.

Switch up the backsplash

If your backsplash is a little bland right now, you can instantly make it more summery by adding some color to it. Did you know you can update your backsplash without tearing it out too? Freshome.com suggests adding a coat of paint to your backsplash if you like the material but don’t like the color. Adding blue colors to the backsplash or going with yellows and tans can be a simple way to feel like you’re surrounded by water and sand. If rustic beach cabins are more your style, they also suggest incorporating wood to your backsplash. Check out more of their ideas to update your backsplash — you’ll see how simple it can be!

Incorporate coastal colors

Use shades of blue to bring a pop of summer to your kitchen in a quick and easy way. You can make simple changes by painting your kitchen walls, or even refinishing your kitchen cabinets. Our budget-friendly refinishing process is an easy way to add those cool-toned colors to your kitchen cabinets. How? We do it in just two simple steps.

ON-SITE: We’ll be in your kitchen for the first couple of days. Beginning by taping everything off to protect your belongings, we then remove the cabinet doors and drawers. After that, we then coat your cabinet frames. We wash, hand-sand, prime, repair cracks and blemishes, caulk, and spray the finish on all of the exterior surfaces of your cabinet frames. You can have teal, navy, or whatever shade of cabinets you desire for your summer kitchen in less than a week!

OFF-SITE: Next, we’ll go to our shop with your doors and drawer fronts. They will go through the same stages as your cabinet frames. All of the pieces will then receive three coats of our commercial-grade acrylic coatings, all applied in our contaminate-free spray booth. Once completed, we head back to your home and reinstall the cabinet doors and drawer fronts, as well as any new knobs and handles you request. That’s it!

Add coastal hardware

A fun way to instantly give your kitchen a beach update is to add coastal cabinet and drawer knobs. You can find pieces with mermaids, starfish, turtles, anchors, and more that can instantly leave a beach-effect on your kitchen every day of the year. If that’s not your style, you can opt for plain hardware that is a solid color that will perfectly compliment your new cabinet color. If you want to find inspiration for your beach-y hardware, look at all of these options on Wayfair.

More bright decor

If you’re not ready to fully transition your kitchen into looking like it’s located beachside, then consider adding bright colored decor. Again, for this theme, we suggest sticking to more cool-toned colors. You can add bright rugs, colorful flowers, or coastal artwork to easily begin the transition of updating your kitchen. If you want to take this a step further, brighten up your appliances too! You can find appliances of all colors too. An idea? Keep the cabinets and walls white and add colorful appliances – like a turquoise coffee pot or a teal toaster to instantly brighten your countertops up.

Add greenery

By adding palm-leaved plants or other large green plants, you can make it seem like the sand is right outside your back door. Plants also have a lot of health benefits too! They can help reduce carbon dioxide levels and pollutants, purify the air, and just make breathing easier for you all the way around. Additionally, they’ve been known to boost moods too! Different Ways to Update Your Kitchen

Whether you’re looking to fully update your kitchen or just incorporate small changes, you have options. We can get tired of looking at the same old space, so if that’s you too, keep reading!

There is a lot you can do for your kitchen to freshen it up and bring it back to life. If you’re tired of the same old kitchen, here are some different ways to give it a much-needed update.

Different Ways to Update Your Kitchen

Swap out your dinnerware

A fun way to spice up your kitchen is to change out your dinnerware. You can change it with the seasons, occasions, or for no reason at all. If you’re wanting your kitchen to have a modern flare, try some sleek all-white plates. To change it up and have a mediterranean feel, look for dinnerware that has blue and yellow detail, like this set! You don’t have to go out and purchase many different sets right away, some of our tips: mix and match sets, accumulate over time, and have fun with it! There’s no right or wrong way to swap dinnerware.

Update your utensils

Another quick way to freshen things up in your kitchen is to change out the silverware you use each day. Instead of traditional silverware, opt for different colors. You can find silverware in all kinds of colors, from matte-black to bright rainbow colors. Changing out your utensils every now and then, much like the dinnerware, keeps them from being overused and helps keep them usable for longer. Plus, you won’t get bored looking at the same silverware each day!

Hang things on the walls

Art has the ability to transform a space. From adding paintings with abstract art to adding framed photos of your family, you can instantly enhance a space. We also love incorporating mirrors into our kitchen space. Not only does it help feel a blank wall, but adding mirrors can also make a space feel brighter and larger. If you want to add more art on more than just the walls, try framing motivational quotes or phrases and putting them in frames on the counter. You can change these up with the seasons, like adding lyrics to a Christmas song in December or something patriotic for the 4th of July. There’s no limit to what you can do!

Add a rug

Rugs are another way you can add dimension and color to your dull kitchen. From runners to large area rugs, you can find a rug that best fits your space. Rugs also help provide cushion, so whether you’re standing for long periods of time preparing a meal or doing the dishes, you can remain comfortable. Additionally, rugs can also help with noise pollution according to Forbes. If you have hardwood floors or tile in your kitchen, adding a rug can help absorb unwanted sound and improve acoustics in your space!

Increase lighting

When you don’t have enough lighting in your kitchen, it’s easy for the space to become dark and dreary. Brighten up your space by adding more light sources, like more overhead lighting or lamps. Like we mentioned above, adding a mirror is another way to help light bounce and brighten up your space. More lighting can help you see recipes better or find things in your pantry and cabinets easier, which is a win/win.

Refinish cabinets

If you find that you’ve tried all of these tips and more but still don’t have the kitchen you’re dreaming of, try simply refinishing your kitchen cabinets with our team here at Summit Cabinet Coatings. Our refinishing process is simple, and we’ll be out of your kitchen in under a week. Refinishing your cabinets is the best way to update your kitchen without completely tearing your cabinets out and adding new ones. You can choose any color and finish you want to truly make it a space you love. From brightening things up with a fun color, like teal cabinets, or modernizing with all-white, we can accommodate whatever you’re looking for.

8 Ways to Clean, Declutter, and Organize Your Kitchen Cabinets

It doesn’t take long for our kitchen cabinets to become a disorganized mess. Once you know the organizational method that works for you, it’s easy to keep your kitchen clean and organized. Making sure that your cabinets stay clean and organized is an easy way to protect their longevity. If you’re not sure what method works best for you, here are 8 ways to clean, declutter, and organize your kitchen cabinets.

8 Ways to Clean, Declutter, and Organize Your Kitchen Cabinets

1.Use storage bins

For those cabinets that store food and panty items, try incorporating bins. Not only will this help your cabinets appear more neat and organized, but it will also look pretty! Bins are a great way to find exactly what you’re wanting every time you open up the cabinet door. Reduce clutter by containing items that otherwise spread all over the shelves, like bags of snacks, towels, and more.

2.Stack your shelves

Have you ever been annoyed by not being able to fit everything on the bottom of the shelf, but you still have space above your items to fill before the next shelf starts? Us too. Try stacking things on your shelves. You can find smaller plastic shelves that fit within your space to help you stack things like bowls, plates, and cups on top of one another without them all falling over. If you don’t know where to look for these, here are some options from Bed Bath & Beyond

3.Lazy Susans

This invention is great for helping make the most of your space without having to fumble to look for what you need. Rather than having spices fall over or have cans hiding in the very back of your cabinet, incorporate a Lazy Susan. With this organizer, you put things on a round turntable that you can easily spin around to find what you’re looking for. In addition, having everything on one easy organizer can help clear up clutter and look more pleasing to the eye.

4.Wipe inside of cabinets down monthly

Life gets busy and we can forget just how gross our cabinets can get. We recommend cleaning out all your cabinets once a month and wiping them down to keep everything tidy and clean. This is also a great time to reorganize if things have gotten a little messy during day-to-day life.

5.Don’t forget the drawers

If you’re like us, you more than likely have a junk drawer somewhere in the kitchen. You know, the drawer that accumulates unopened sauces from restaurants or plasticware that was never used. Instead of just throwing them in there, use drawer organizers. You can find these at your local Target or WalMart, and they’re great for keeping things compartmentalized. You can use these organizers for every drawer in your kitchen. From the ones that hold silverware, to the ones that hold measuring spoons and more, these are a great addition to anyone’s kitchen.

6.Sliding storage drawers

If you have a tough time reaching pots, pans, or Tupperware that are all stacked on top of one another, look into sliding storage. Here is a great option from The Container Store. This will be more convenient for you as you go to get things out or put things up, and it also keeps your cabinets organized and clean.

7.Clean the outside of cabinets

Just like cleaning the inside of your cabinets is important, it’s also important to clean the outside on the doors and drawer fronts. While we’re cooking, things can get splashed up onto them or dirty fingers can go to open them when we need something while cooking. This means overtime they can get filthy. Thoroughly wiping them down daily will help keep your kitchen clean and preserve the lifespan and quality of your cabinets. When food gets caked on for months, it can rip off the finishing when you finally go to clean it. Wiping them down daily helps avoid this problem.

8.Use airtight clear containers for food storage

In your pantry area, empty food from their original package and store dry goods in clear, airtight containers to really give your kitchen an organized, crisp clean feel. When you do this, be sure to clearly label your containers so you never forget what you put in them. This jar container method can help you store more in your space, and it looks better than the store-bought packaging too.

How to Make the Most of the Kitchen You Have

Completely renovating a kitchen can be expensive and keep you from using your kitchen for months. Instead of fully redoing your kitchen, consider the benefits of refinishing your kitchen cabinets and making smaller changes. Here’s how to make the most of the kitchen you have, and why your wallet will thank you for it!

If You Have a Small Kitchen

There are ways to make your kitchen feel bigger if that’s what you’re wanting without tearing down walls and ripping your cabinets out. Here are some of our favorite ways that you can make your kitchen appear larger:

  • Choose brighter colors: A quick and easy way to make your kitchen feel bigger is to pick light, bright colors to have throughout your kitchen. Lighter colors can help open up a space and make it seem more free flowing, whereas darker colors tend to make rooms feel smaller. This simple trick is an easy way to open things up. If you want to really commit to this option, have your walls and cabinets both transitioned to light colors. Our refinishing process can easily brighten up your kitchen cabinets in under a week!
  • Add mirrors: people oftentimes don’t think about adding mirrors into the kitchen as a normal decor choice, but do it! Adding mirrors to your kitchen can help trick the eye into thinking your kitchen is bigger than really is. Apartment Therapy offers several unique ideas to incorporate mirrors to help your spaces look bigger. One of their tricks? Try a mirror behind the stove. This area of the kitchen is usually one of the darkest, so placing a mirror back there will help bounce the light to make the space seem lighter and larger. Though it’s bound to get dirty from time to time, mirrors are easy to clean making this a good option!
  • Add lights: adding more lightening will help brighten the space up along with updating the color of your kitchen. Try adding hanging lights and lamps to let more light in.

If You Have a Crowded Kitchen

Kitchens can easily accumulate a lot of items with no place to go. Whether it’s getting new appliances for weddings or Christmas or seeing an influencer using something cool on Instagram and you want it, we easily gather up a lot of kitchen tools. If you find that you lack space in your kitchen, try these tips:

  • Incorporate an island: this might seem counterintuitive by adding more things into your kitchen, but this trick can help make a space seem bigger. When you lack storage, a lot of your kitchen appliances find themselves at home on countertops, which cause clutter. Clutter can make a space seem much smaller, faster. If you add something like an island, permanently or on wheels, you’ll have much more storage and countertop space which can instantly make the space look more roomy.
  • Clean and organize: a great way to improve a crowded kitchen is to organize, organize, organize! Go through every cabinet and search for ways to organize what’s in them. You can find a number of ways online that teach you how to properly store things in an organized manner. Rather than throwing pots and pans and lids in a cabinet, give them an assigned spot to go. You’ll be surprised how much cabinet space you’ll clear up! Another way to add more space to your kitchen is to clean out junk drawers. Most of the time, junk drawers contain things that don’t belong in the kitchen in the first place. Cleaning these out will help give you more space to put kitchen-belonging items.
  • Add hanging storage: if you run out of cabinet space, add hanging storage. You can find neat storage options, like this pots and pans hanger, to free up space in cabinets. If you need inspiration, check out these ideas from Good Housekeeping
